Northern Virginia Districtwide, Wellington Road Improvements
This four-lane overpass will carry Nokesville Road/Center Street over Wellington Road and the Norfolk-Southern railroad tracks. The bridge and new ramps span Technology Drive to Cockrell Road, eliminating the need for vehicles to stop for trains. On a typical weekday, 20 trains ride the rails while an average of 23,500 vehicles, including approximately 20 school buses, cross the tracks. Separating the roadway from the railroad will allow more trains to move through the area each day and for those trains to travel at higher speeds. The allowable number of tracks will increase from one to three, improving Virginia Railway Express service and cargo access to Northern Virginia. The bridge is being constructed on a new alignment so that motorists will experience minimal disruptions during construction.
For this project, QCS staff provided both inspection and project management support.
