This new 1,005-foot bridge across South Holston Lake in Bristol replaced the narrow two-lane truss bridge that was built in 1949. Completed in July 2015, Quinn was a sub-consultant on the $16 million bridge replacement project.
In 2016, the International Partnering Institute (IPI) awarded the project team with the Ruby-Level Partnered Project of the Year for a civil construction project under $25 million. The second-highest honor awarded by IPI, the project team was recognized for collaborative partnering to overcome obstacles and find new ways to solve problems. Through consistent cooperation and innovative thinking, the team was able to keep the bridge open throughout the project, finish 11 days ahead of schedule and more than $750,000 under budget.
Quinn provided full-time construction inspectors to oversee demolition of the existing bridge and construction of the new bridge and approaches. Quinn was responsible for monitoring contractor activities and products for compliance with contract documents, plans, standards and specifications; mentoring and supervising junior inspectors on the project; and preparing daily diaries in the VDOT SiteManager documentation and payment processing system.
