Rte 340 Gooney Creek Bridge Replacement

  • Rte 340 Gooney Creek Bridge Replacement

This project replaced the original Gooney Creek Bridge that was built in 1936. The bridge had reached the end of its lifespan and it could no longer meet the needs of 21st century vehicle and bicycle traffic.

Quinn provided office engineering and inspection services for this project that was awarded the VDOT Staunton District Project of the Year (2015).

In addition to the bridge replacement, there were several roadway improvements, which included two 12-foot travel lanes, two 10-foot paved shoulder lanes, and rumble strips to separate the roadway from bicyclists.  The steep approaches to the north and south of the bridge were also improved.
